Wind Farms Pros & Cons

Americans are showing an increasing desire to provide electricity to their homes and businesses using alternative forms of energy, and developers are stepping up to the challenge. Some of the desire for clean energy is being met through the development of wind farms, which have their pros and cons.
  1. Identification

    • Wind farms, also known as wind power plants, are an assembly of windmills or wind turbines. These turbines use three rotating blades to transform wind power into electricity.

    Pros

    • Energy generated from wind farms is a form of renewable, clean energy. Wind energy doesn't require the use of fossil fuels or pollute the environment with greenhouse gasses. Wind farms are also known to produce inexpensive energy, which costs between 4 and 6 cents per kilowatt-hour.

    Cons

    • Wind farms may interfere with television reception in nearby homes. The farms also tend to be loud, contributing to noise pollution. Additionally, the land available for such energy generation may be expensive or in remote locations, making some wind farms inconvenient.
