Blackberries
Blackberries are perennial plants, which means that they live for more than two years, though they bear canes that are biennial. This means that only a cane in its second year will bear fruit, after which it will die.
Cultivation
Blackberry plants are hardy, and grow well in the wild. Indeed, since the roots spread so rapidly and are so strong, it can be very difficult to get rid of unwanted plants. Blackberries are also cultivated for use as a foodstuff. They grow best in full sunlight.
Blooming
Blackberry plants bloom in the summer, shortly before their berries begin the appear. The berries ripen from August to September, which is when they are ready to be picked.
