Argentina Islands
Many times an enclave is an island. A couple of examples of enclaves include islands that are territories of Argentina. The Isla Martin Garcia is within Uruguayan waters in the Rio de la Plata. Other islands include Entre Rios and Apipe, which are both surrounded by the Parana River which is considered territory of Paraguay.
Spanish Enclaves
Small sub-national territories can also be considered enclaves. Within countries such as Spain enclaves include Cordoba, which is within the Seville province. Girona, a province of Catalonia, exists within the Barcelona province.
Vatican City
One of the most famous enclaves in the world is the Vatican City, which exists within Rome. The City is located on Vatican hill, which is along the Tiber River of Rome. Within the Vatican City, the power lay with the pope, who has complete executive, legal, as well as judicial powers. Usually, the executive power is placed within a commission, which is made up of cardinals selected by the Pope. The land mass of Vatican City is roughly 17,000 miles.
United States Enclaves
Within the United States, there are several territories that qualify as enclaves. Within the state of Arizona, the Hopi Indian Reservation is within the center of the Navajo Reservation, making it an enclave. In the state of Arkansas, the city of Little Rock dwarfs the city of Cammack Village.
Several other cities and towns within the U.S. have small enclaves within them. San Fernando is an enclave of Los Angeles. Beverly Hills --- as well as West Hollywood --- are also located within the city of Los Angeles to form separate enclaves.
