How to Get Rid of Seaweed

Attach the rope to the rake. Stand where the risk of falling into the water is minimal and lower the rake into the water. The weighted head on the seaweed rake will allow it to sink into the water.

Lower the rake into the bottom of the water. Slide the rake along the bottom and grip the seaweed. Then forcefully pull upward and bring the clump of seaweed out. Repeat this until you've cleared all of the seaweed from your chosen area.

Pull the seaweed up to the surface next to where you're standing and place it inside your metal trash can. Be sure to empty the trash can and clean it before using. You only want seaweed to be in the can.

Place the lid back on the can to keep the seaweed algae from spreading and refilling your chosen area, through reproduction. Once the seaweed is inside of the trash can, burn it or use it as compost for fertilizer.

To remove seaweed by introducing seaweed eating fish, introduce either redband parrot fish or surgeon fish. Both of these fish feed on seaweed and can keep the population of seaweed down in an area that repopulates with it.

Seaweed can also be removed using modern weed killers. Simply spray the seaweed with weed killer, and it will eventually die. Seaweed can also be killed by spreading baking soda over the infested area.
