Things You'll Need
Instructions
Create a flat area in the snow. Stomp it out with your kids and level it out with a shovel. Make the shape of how you want your igloo so you can lay the blocks around the outside circular shape of the area.
Get a plastic box to use as a mold and spray or coat it with cooking oil so the ice blocks will slide out after you have created them. Your blocks should be about 3 feet long, 8 inches deep and 15 inches high if possible.
Fill the box with snow and pack firmly. If the snow is too powdery, pour some water onto it and allow it to freeze.
Remove each block from the mold and start using the ice blocks as you make them to form walls around the circle. Start building walls by placing the ice blocks on top and next to each other. Create one side that's higher--this will be the back wall.
Place the blocks on top each other, filling the gaps with snow to seal any openings. Creating a slant or spiral to the top where it will attach to make an angled roof. The blocks will go up and slope into each other towards the top where they will meet to create a dome shape.
Cut a small hole underneath and part of the wall for the door. Cut small ventilation holes to allow you to breath while you're inside the igloo. Your body heat will cause some of the inside surface of the wall's snow to melt and turn to ice, ultimately creating an airtight seal.
