Sources of Spring Water

Spring water provides nutrients and hydrates human and animal life all over the world. Within spring water, minerals and vitamins dissolved from the ground give water taste and purpose. Water from springs comes from rain that has made its way down within a hill. Forces from the natural pressure of the earth push the water up from the ground resulting in a spring. A variety of springs in the United States make water accessible and affordable.
  1. Poland Spring

    • Commonly seen as a logo on bottled water, Poland Spring in Maine was discovered in the late 18th century by Hiram Ricker. After noticing the healing and medicinal properties of the water, he shared it with his family and friends. By 1859, Ricker began selling Poland Spring water and developed a resort around the spring. The Poland Water company still distributes bottled water from this spring today all around the United States.

    Mammoth Spring

    • Mammoth Spring in Arkansas is the state's largest spring and the second largest among the Ozark Mountains. The spring yields nine million gallons of water each hour. As a natural historic landmark, the site is open to sightseers Mammoth Spring bubbles out to a scenic river as well.

    Rainbow Springs

    • Scientists have found that humans have used Rainbow Springs in Florida for almost 10,000 years. Only the fourth largest in Florida, this spring still offers ample opportunities for people to enjoy the water. Swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and canoeing are permitted within these waters. Tubing allows visitors to enjoy nature and wildlife as they float down the Rainbow River which is fed by the spring.
