Northern
Northern California is home to fewer than 10 active weather stations, with the northernmost station, Tulelake FS, serving the northeast plateau region as of 2010. Moving south, you can visit the Alturas, McArthur and Buntingville weather stations. As you move into the Sacramento Valley region of central California, you encounter the Gerber, Orland, Durham and Colusa weather stations.
Central
The majority of California's weather stations are located in the state's central areas, including the San Francisco Bay, Sacramento Valley and San Joaquin regions. The Sonoma and San Francisco Bay region is serviced by the Point San Pedro, Santa Rosa and Bennett Valley weather stations, while Sacramento is serviced by Twitchell Island, Hastings Tract and Davis weather stations. As you move into the San Joaquin region of central California, you can visit several weather stations, including De Laveaga in the Santa Cruz area, Arroyo Seco in the Monterey Bay region and Arvin-Edison towards the south.
Southern
The Otay Lake weather station, which was established April 15, 1999, near Chula Vista, is California's southernmost station. The Los Angeles basin region is serviced by the Santa Clarita, Palmdale and Glendale weather stations, while the Santa Barbara area is serviced by the Sisquoc, Santa Ynez and Cuyama weather stations. Other active weather stations located in southern California include Blythe NE, Barstow NE and Salton Sea East.
