My Coleman Lantern Won't Work

The Coleman lantern is ubiquitous in outdoor recreation. If yours is not working, a few simple steps can having it back in use in no time.
  1. Fuel Source

    • If you are having trouble with your Coleman lantern, try checking the fuel source. Coleman markets battery, lamp oil, and propane powered lamps. If the lantern runs off batteries try replacing them. If the lantern runs off lamp oil, refill the reservoir. If you have a propane powered lamp, purchase a replacement propane tank from your local hardware or outdoor shop and switch it out.

    Light Source

    • Coleman lanterns can either have light bulbs if it is battery powered, or lantern filaments if runs off propane or lamp oil. If replacing or refilling the fuel source does not work, try replacing the bulbs or filaments. These items are also available at any local hardware store or outdoor shop.

    Disposal

    • If replacing the fuel and the light source do not work, it might be time to throw the broken lantern away. Before throwing it out be sure to remove the battery or fuel and safely dispose of it at a designated hazardous material disposal site.
