National Geographic Special Issues

National Geographic is an international environment, archaeological and scientific publication that comes out once a month in paper form. Created in 1888, the National Geographic Society is a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington D.C. Besides the monthly periodical, special issues are put out on a regular basis.
  1. Special Issues

    • National Geographic Special Issues are the identical size and background color as the monthly issues, plus they contain the same pictorial style of photography that has helped make National Geographic a common item in many households around the world. The main difference is that a special issue focuses on a specific theme that could be anything from oceans, outer space, the Holy Land to swimsuits.

    Availability

    • A subscription to National Geographic costs 15 dollars a year, as of 2010. The price of membership includes the monthly magazine, but no special issues that might come out during the course of a year. Non-members and members can buy back issues of National Geographic directly from the company. The price is usually less than 10 dollars but does not include shipping. A few issues are sold out, but due to the popularity of the magazine, copies can sometimes be found online through independent magazine dealers.

    Other Activities

    • National Geographic has a large non-profit network that sponsors a wide range of activities, ranging from TV specials that can be viewed from home, to guided tours of Antarctica. They also publish other magazines that come in their trademark deep yellow cover. These include NG Traveler Magazine, NG Kids Magazine, NG Little Kids Magazine and NG Explorer Magazine.
