Residential Impact
Wind turbines are mostly in rural areas. Residents of rural areas encounter multiple disadvantages from the presence of turbines. One complaint is of the noise pollution created by the structures. The level of noise from wind turbines is relative to a small jet engine. The visual impact is also of concern to residents. The stature of the structures leave open country land spotted by blades and poles which some argue conflict with the natural beauty of the land.
Nature and Environmental Impact
A major environmental concern of incorporating wind turbines is the destruction of animal habitats within the building area. The surveying, construction and maintenance of these towering structures requires trampling through open fields which harbor habitats. Altering or destroying these ecosystems can result in death of an animal species or community. Furthermore, some environmentalists express concern for migratory birds' flight paths.
Cost and Development Impact
Wind turbine energy is yet to be perfected. Developments have yet to be made in this energy field to provide substantial electricity for an urban area rather than a rural one. The lack of space to implant these massive structures within the capacity of an urban environment is a major disadvantage. Furthermore, the cost of building and maintaining the number of wind turbines needed to support the population and electricity usage of urban areas is extremely high.
