How to Make a Percentage Bar Graph

Bar graphs are a simple and basic tool for comparing two sets of data. You can create a bar graph to display percentages by placing the percentage values on the "y" axis and the other value on the "x" axis. This will allow you to compare percentages based on the height of the bars. The higher the bar, the higher the percentage.

Instructions

    • 1

Collect your data. Before you can create your bar graph, you will need to collect the percentages you would like to compare in your graph. Organize the percentages in a chart in comparison with the other data. This will help you in the plotting process.

    • 2

Define the x and y axis for your chart. The y axis will run vertically up the far side of your graph and will display the numbers in percentages. The x axis will be the individuals, groups, or ideas you want to represent as a percentage. The x axis runs horizontally along the bottom of the graph.

    • 3

Draw the scale for your bar graph. With percentages, it might be helpful to draw the y axis in increments of five percent.

    • 4

Input your data. Draw a bar that is the height according to the percentage for the y axis. You should have as many bars as you have y axis items.
