How to Analyze Your Name with Numerology

Numerology is a method of divination that seeks to understand people, places, and events by analyzing numbers associated with those people, places, and events. Though numerology is a pseudoscience akin astrology and palm reading, many people put faith in numerical patterns--just as they put faith in the alignment of planets or creases on the palm.

You can use numerology to perform a name analysis on yourself, your friends and family, or even a business name.

Instructions

    • 1

First, assign a number to each letter of the alphabet as follows. Write the digits 1 through 9 across the top of a sheet of paper. Then, write the letters A through Z under each number. You will have 1 assigned to A, J, and S; 2 assigned to B, K, and T;...and 9 assigned to I and R.

    • 2

Next, write out your name and the corresponding numbers under each letter to make a sequence of digits. For example, the name Petra corresponds to the sequence 75291.

    • 3

Add up the digits repeatedly until you arrive at a single digit number. For example, 7+5+2+9+1 = 24, and 2+4 = 6. So the name Petra corresponds to the number 6.

    • 4

Now, use a numerology book to divine personality traits based on a person's name number. There is no standard set of interpretations, but the following list shows many traits commonly associated with the number 1 through 9.
      1: leader, blunt, stubborn
      2: peaceful, analytical, cold
      3: creative, inconsistent, untactful
      4: creative, leader, fussy
      5: new, deceptive, intelligent
      6: caretaker, loyal, gullible
      7: lucky, deceptive, stubborn
      8: wealthy, loving, gullible
      9: intelligent, generous, insightful

(Notice that 5 is assigned to the letters E, N, and W, which can be rearranged to spell new.)

    • 5

When using numerology to name a baby, try to pick a first name (or first and middle names) so that the digits of the first and last names (or first, middle, and last names) add up to 9.

Suppose your last name is Johnson, which has a numerical value of 5. The names William and Robert have numerical values of 7 and 6 respectively. If you name your child William Robert Johnson, then the numbers 7, 6, 5 add up to 18, and 18 adds up to 9. So this is an auspicisous name

    • 6

Lastly, consider the numerology of your birth date when analyzing your name. Apply Step 3 to the digits in your birth date to generate a single digit number. This number represents you unlocked inner potential.

For example, suppose you were born on July 7, 1977. The digits 7+7+1+9+7+7 add up to 38, 3+8 adds up to 11, and 1+1 = 2. Since 2 represents peace, you may have the makings of a peacemaker or negotiator.

Even if you don't believe in numerology, you can have fun analyzing the patterns in people's names and birthdays. You can also apply numerology to pick lottery numbers.
