How to Understand Your Heart's Desire Number in Numerology

The heart's desire, or soul urge number, represents our deep desires. One way to understand the heart's desire in numerology is to imagine how a parent supports a child in their dreams even if the dream does not seem practical, like the child who wants to be an artist or to travel the world before college. That desire is the heart's desire. We can also see it perhaps in the kind of partner we choose in life. In sum, it's the things we want and value.

  Take all of the vowels from your full birth name. Each vowel will be assigned a corresponding number. So begin with your first name; take out the vowels and write them down. Do the same with your middle name or names, and then with your last name.

  Write down the following numbers over the vowels in your name on your piece of paper: a = 1, e = 5, i = 9, o = 6, u = 3.

  Place a 5 over "w" and a 7 over "y" under these special circumstances: If there are no vowels in a syllable except a "y" (such as the syllable "syn" in "synchronicity") or when "y" has a vowel before it (like in "may" or "hey"), then consider it to be a vowel. If the "w" has a vowel preceding it forming one vowel sound (like "paw" or "law"), then it's also treated like a vowel.

  Add together the numbers assigned to the vowels for each of your names individually; your first, middle and last names. For example, if your name is Steven, the two e's add up to 10. If your middle name is David, that also adds up to 10. And if your last name is Robinson, you have 21.

  Add the number of each name to itself like this. Using our example, that means Steven = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1; David = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1; and Robinson = 21 = 2 + 1 = 3. Add each one of these three final numbers together to get a final digit. So for Steven David Robinson, his heart's desire number is 5 (1 + 1 + 3 = 5).

  Prepare for one exception to adding these numbers up to make a one-digit number between 1 and 9. If your final number is an 11, 22 or 33, you have master numbers for your heart's desire number. Add them together as you did in the previous step, but also leave them as master numbers. So now you have two soul urge numbers: an 11 and a 2 in the case of 1 + 1 or 9 + 2, for example.

  Find a chart in a numerology book or online for the numbers relating to the heart's desire number. In the case of our friend Steven, he looks up 5 in his numerology guidebook and it says he likes a lot of change in his life. He thinks that's an accurate description, as he likes freedom and can't be tied down to the humdrum. He also is a successful entrepreneur who likes to travel. Whatever your numbers may be, you can look them up and find out what the ancient tradition of numerology has to say about you and your deepest desires.
