How to Use Rolling Oil on the 2500 Hot-Strip Mill

Adding oil lubricant to your 2500 hot-strip mill improves equipment productivity. Hot-strip mills take slabs of steel and flatten them using forces from gigantic rollers. Pressing steel through rollers creates friction and heat which leads to uneven steel thickness and lower quality products. Using a combination of oil and water lubricant will reduce heat and friction so that you can produce steel with a high-quality, uniform surface.

Things You'll Need

  • Oil lubricant
  • Access to the cooling system manifold

Instructions

    • 1

Find the outlet at the side of the stand which you can feed lubricant into so that it sprays onto the rollers. Feed the oil and water into this outlet which is part of the cooling system manifold.

    • 2

Mix the oil with the water by injecting it under a pressure of 1.5 to 2 times as great of the pressure of the water leading into the line of the cooling system manifold, which creates an optimal distribution of oil drops on the rollers.

    • 3

Keep oil consumption between .002 and .004 kilograms per second. Use approximately .064 kilograms of water per second, though the exact amount may vary depending on your equipment conditions and oil consumption.
