Measure, mark and cut a piece of 1/2-inch plywood that is 12 inches wide and 6 feet long. This is the bottom of your sluice.
Measure, mark and cut two pieces of 1/2-inch plywood which are 6 1/2 inches wide and 6 feet long. These are the sides of your sluice box.
Measure, mark and cut one piece of 1/2-inch plywood which is 6 1/2 inches wide and 13 inches long. This is the end of your sluice box.
Measure, mark and cut seven pieces of 1-by-1-inch lumber which are 12 inches long. These are your rifts.
Lay the bottom of the sluice box horizontally on a flat surface in front of you.
Position one side along the top edge of the bottom. The 1/2-inch edge should be resting on the flat surface. Secure the sides to the bottom using 3/4-inch wood screws spaced 6 inches apart.
Position the remaining side on the bottom edge of the bottom. The 1/2-inch edge should be resting on the flat surface. Secure the sides to the bottom using 3/4-inch wood screws spaced 6 inches apart.
Position the end of the sluice box along left edge of the constructed trough. The 1/- inch edge should be resting on the flat surface. Align the edges of the end with the outer edges of the trough. Secure the end to the trough using 3/4-inch wood screws at all four corners.
Measure 12 inches from the left end of the sluice box. Position a rift across the width of your sluice box at the measuring point. Screw the rift to the bottom of the box using 1 1/4-inch wood screws at both ends.
Measure 6 inches from the rift secured in Step 9. Position a rift across the width of the sluice box at the measurement point. Secure the rift. Place the remaining rifts 6 inches apart until all the rifts are used.
