How to Crush Magnetite

Iron mining typically produces five desired forms of iron: magnetite, hematite, goethite, limonite and siderite. These five types of iron are then processed and sent to steel mills. Magnetite, like the other ores, requires certain steps to become usable; namely, it must be crushed and pulverized into a powder form.

Instructions

    • 1

First, mine the magnetite from the ground using explosives. This leaves the magnetite ore in large chunks that must be processed. This may be done on-site with mobile crushers, or it may require transport to the crusher elsewhere.

    • 2

Use the conveyor/feeder belt to continuously feed the lumps of magnetite into the primary crusher, usually a jaw crusher. A screen at the output section separates any ore that is small enough, at that point, to go to the secondary crusher. Use the wet ball mill to reduce the larger lumps for processing by the secondary crusher.

    • 3

Feed the magnetite by conveyor belt into the secondary crusher. This secondary crusher will be an impact crusher. The result will be a sandy ore.

    • 4

Once again using conveyor belts, feed the sandy magnetite ore into the tertiary crusher. This third crusher should be a cone crusher, and it will produce magnetite powder from the fine sand. Once you have the powder form, the crushing process ends.
