Instructions

  1. General Usage

    • 1

Lay the Fisher FX-3 metal detector on a flat, non-metallic surface to test it. Remove any metal objects from nearby. Set the sensitivity dial to zero. Listen for a soft ticking, which indicates a good battery and electronics.

    • 2

Set the sensitivity dial to 5. If you're looking for larger objects, or objects closer to the surface, you can set the sensitivity to a lower number, such as 4 or 3. If you're searching for smaller or deeper objects, set the sensitivity to a higher number, such as 6 or 7.

    • 3

Hold the probe tip close to the ground, facing down. Sweep the probe tip slowly side to side. Keep the probe tip in motion continuously while you're searching. Pay attention to the probe's feedback.

    • 4

Narrow down the area that you're searching to a six inch diameter circle. Hold the probe in a vertical position, with the probe perpendicular to the ground. Move the probe slowly back and forth until you've pinpointed the exact location of the object.

    Battery Replacement

    • 5

Open the battery access panel. The panel is directly above the sensitivity knob.

    • 6

Slide out the old battery. Contact your local waste management agency to determine the proper way to dispose of it.

    • 7

Slide in a fresh NEDA 1604 9V general purpose battery.

    • 8

      Replace the battery hatch cover.
