The essential elements that make up Labradorite are Aluminum (Al), Calcium (Ca), Oxygen (O) and Silicon (Si). Sodium (Na) is also included in chemical formula of Labradorite, however is not considered essential to the composition. Hardness is a quality measured by how easily one mineral can scratch another. Labradorite measures between 6 and 6.5 hardness on a scale of 0 to ten. While Labradorite is hardly ever transparent, it can appear opaque to translucent.
Color Qualities
Labradorite forms naturally in several different colors including gold, turquoise and silvery blue with flashes of shiny green. The shiny exterior features of Labradorite have been come to be commonly called "flash." Other color qualities include brilliant pastels, orange, red, smoky gray and even colorless. The rare, flashy metallic rainbow appearance has been termed "labradorescence." The most valuable of Labradorite are the rocks that portray the flashy metal spectral range.

Labradorite has been used for many centuries to heal and detoxify the body. The rock is thought to contain anti-aging and pain relieving properties that can sooth menstrual discomfort as well as the power to lower blood pressure. Labradorite is associated with the astrological signs of Leo, Sagittarius and Scorpio.
