Uses for Marble Metamorphic Rock

Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when sedimentary rocks such as dolomite or limestone are compressed and the calcite melts. It recrystallizes into marble, with the other components in the mixture determining its color such as sand, silt or iron oxides. Marble may be white, yellowish, pale pink, blueish or gray. Since marble is aesthetically appealing as well as durable, it has many uses.

Sculptures
- Sculptors typically use marble because it is relatively soft and resistant to shattering, making it ideal to cut into without impacting the overall sculpture's appearance. Many sculptors, including Michelangelo, sculpted with marble. It is slightly translucent and is easily representative of human skin.
Construction
- Developers use marble for constructing buildings because its style fits in well with other construction materials, such as wood, and it has an elegant appearance to it. Both the Taj Mahal and the Alhambra are famous marble buildings. Marble can withstand areas of heavy traffic, such as entryways and stairways.
Countertops
- When deciding what material to use for your kitchen and bathroom countertops, consider using marble if you want a whitish material that is known for being easy to clean and elegant. You can cut marble into tiles of any size to fit on your large or small countertops. Since one of marble's characteristics is that it's easy to clean, it's ideal for kitchen surfaces.
Gravestones
- You can also use marble to make a gravestone with plenty of text or an intricate design because you can shape marble well. Over time, marble strengthens and becomes more durable.
