Chemical
An HNO2 dilute solution can be mixed with a sodalite mineral in order to get a positive chlorine test. It is the only feldspathoid mineral able to do this, because it is the only one that contains chlorine. Sodalite is used in swimming pool test kits because of this chemical reaction. It is used to test the chlorine levels in pools.
Gemstone
The sodalite gemstone is worn for decorative purposes, usually in the form of jewelry. This stone can be either in its original rough form or polished smooth. It can be the ornamental gem in necklaces, bracelets, anklets, rings and belts. Even the stone itself is displayed by rock collectors for its attractive look. Sodalite can also be made into paperweights, statues, beads and other decorative items.
Tabletops
As a dimension stone, sodalite can be cut, shaped and smoothed into a variety of surfaces and items. Sodalite is commonly shaped into tabletops, as it is both sturdy and decorative. Like marble, sodalite makes an attractive tabletop because it is strong enough to hold weight and it is beautiful. Each sodalite surface is unique and can have random bursts of color, including blue, white, pink, red, gray and green.
Tiles
Sodalite can also be shaped into indoor or outdoor floor tiles. For indoor floor tiles, sodalite can comprise the whole tile or only a part of it. Indoor sodalite floor tiles can most commonly be found in a kitchen or bathroom. Outdoor sodalite tiles can be used as steppingstones in the dirt. They can decorate a backyard or a garden and are commonly chosen because of their natural appearance.
Spiritual
Gemstones are commonly associated with spiritual qualities. Sodalite is associated with losing weight, stimulating the thyroid glad, athletic strength, strengthening the lymphatic system, treating digestive system disorders, a peaceful atmosphere, confidence and creativity. It is also associated with the astrological sign Sagittarius. These qualities are associated with sodalite on a spiritual level and are more commonly believed to be part of religious practices.
