Crystals are minerals; inorganic solids which occur naturally. Some form due to precipitation; minerals precipitate from a solution to collect in a crystalline form. This is called nucleation. Growing crystals at home is referred to as "assisted nucleation."

500 ml of water
500 ml glass jar with lid

Pour the alum into the glass jar.

Add the water to the jar.

Put the lid on the jar and sit it on a windowsill.

Leave the jar for a week to allow crystals to grow.
