How to Grow Crystal Science Projects

Growing crystals is a popular science project, especially among young children. This project uses natural, non-toxic ingredients, so it's completely safe to put the entire project in the hands of a child which ultimately makes it more exciting for the youngsters. While results aren't immediate with this science project as with some others, watching the formation of crystals over the course of a day or more can be just as exciting as the final result.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of black construction paper to the size of a container. Put the paper in the bottom of the container. Any flat container that can hold at least 1 cup of water will work for the experiment.

    • 2

Add 1 tbsp. of Epsom salt and 1/4 cup of warm water to a measuring cup. Mix the water with a spoon until the salt dissolves.

    • 3

Pour the water in the container so the construction paper is thoroughly saturated with the salt solution.

    • 4

Place the container in a sunny window or outside in a sunny spot. Salt crystals will form as the water dissolves from the paper.
