Electrolysis
Electrolysis is a process in which energy drives a chemical reaction that is normally nonspontaneious, or a chemical reaction that will not happen on its own. In industry, it is often used to break down and purify metals and compounds that are normally stable and nonreactive.
Scrap Gold
There are many items that are gold-plated, including jewelry and some types of electronic devices, although the amount of gold that is present and the purity varies. Some industries also produce gold scraps.
Electrolysis with Gold
Electrolysis is often used with a cyanide solution to obtain pure samples of gold and is considered an efficient method of recovery of gold from scrap. However, the use of cyanide has environmental concerns.
