How to Use a Tanzanite Filter

Tanzanite is a rare and valuable gemstone that is presently only mined on the continent of Africa. The gemstone has been popularized by Tiffany's as the gemstone displays a vibrant blue and purple tinting when examined closely. Just like any other gemstone, inspection by a professional gemologist is the best way to determine the authenticity and quality of the rare stone. In their inspections, gemologists use a Tanzanite filter to aid in their evaluation of the gemstone.

Instructions

    • 1

    • 2

Position an incandescent light source behind the gemstone directing the light toward the gemstone.

    • 3

Hold the Tanzanite filter in a position between your eyes and the gemstone, and while you are examining the gemstone rotate the stone.

    • 4

The color of the Tanzanite should change to an orange-pink tint. If it is any other color, you may not have an authentic Tanzanite stone.
