Talc
Talc is a soft mineral known as hydrous magnesium silicate and is the primary ingredient in talc powder. Finely ground, this mineral can be found in many cosmetics, personal hygiene and household products. Talc has been thought to increase the risk of ovarian cancer. Inhalation of talc can also cause breathing complications, particularly in infants.
Magnesium Carbonate
Magnesium carbonate is a naturally occurring mineral often used as an anti-caking agent in powdered or granulated products. It is added to table salt during manufacture to keep it from clumping and allow it to flow easily during use. Its water insolubility makes it ideal for keeping cosmetics and products like talc powder loose and free of lumps.
Parabens
Parabens are frequently used in cosmetic products like talc powder as a preservative. Generally more than one paraben is used in order to prevent the growth of different types of microorganisms and preserve the integrity of the product.
Fragrance
Many talc powders also incorporate fragrances. In addition to these scents, propylene glycol, a colorless and almost odorless alcohol, is included as a fragrance carrier to maintain the integrity of the scented oils.
