How to Clean Fluorite

Cleaning Fluorite with Soap and Water

  Fill a bowl with room-temperature water. Do not use hot water when cleaning fluorite.

  Dip a clean toothbrush into the water and add a small amount of mild dish detergent or hand soap to the brush.

  Clean all sides of the fluorite with the soapy brush, scrubbing gently. Dip the brush in the water frequently to keep it wet as you clean.

  Rinse the fluorite thoroughly with cool water to remove soap and any remaining dirt.

Cleaning Fluorite with Muriatic Acid

  Wear protective gear before you handle muriatic acid. This includes protective gloves (nitrile and neoprene are best but PVC will also work) and goggles.

  Prepare a solution of one part muriatic acid to 10 parts water. When mixing any acid with water, always remember to add acid to water, never the other way around.

  Immerse the fluorite in the acid-and-water solution to loosen dirt and debris. Rub gently if necessary. but the acid should remove most of the dirt.

  Remove the fluorite from the acid and water solution and rinse thoroughly with cold water.
