History
Although iron is one of the oldest metals known to man, the structure and properties of ferrites were not well understood until relatively recently. In the 1800s, the research of Pierre Curie and others brought crucial insights into the ferrite structure. Since then, further research has enabled the development of new and innovative ferrites.
Features
Ferrite's structure is a body-centered cubic crystal structure. The atoms are connected together in such a way as to form a cube, with connections from each corner of the cube to a point in its center.
Uses
Ferrite is a constituent of steel. The structure of ferrite makes it ideal for use as an inductor in electronic circuits. Ferrite beads are used to reduce noise in circuits and computer systems. Ferrite can also be powerfully magnetic.
