The origin of Opalite
The term 'opalite' has been used since 1988 when Opalite was first introduced to the gem trade in Hong Kong. Opalite is not a natural gemstone but one that is man-made, according to Ephemerala.com. It is made out of a plastic resin that is fused with metal to give it an opalescence effect. Because of its light weight, Opalite makes good earrings and costume jewelry although not fine jewelry which requires stronger materials.
The color of opalite
Opalite can be found in a milky blue color. If you look at the picture at http://www.opalite.co.uk, you will see an example of opalite in the shape of an angel that has a medium blue coloring to it.
