Things You'll Need
Instructions
Fill up a jar halfway with tap water. Use a jar that has a wide opening.
Pour 1/2 cup of non-iodized salt into a cup.
Spoon out 1 tbsp. of salt from the bowl into the jar and stir it into the water until it dissolves.
Repeat this process of spooning salt from the bowl to the jar until the salt will no longer mix into the water.
Tie a long string around the center of a pencil.
Place the pencil so it rests across the opening of the jar. Let the string hang down into the jar.
Adjust the string so it stops just before the water.
Place the jar in an area where it won't be disturbed and observe the formation of salt water crystals on the string over the next three weeks.
