Malachite is a mineral composed of copper carbonate hydroxide. It is usually found near deposits of copper ore. An opaque stone, it comes in emerald green to grass green, with darker or lighter banding or swirls. Malachite is found in Russia, Africa, Australia, Britain, France and the United States.

Malachite, as with other green stones, is popular among healers. It can be carried or worn to protect the immune system and detoxify the body. It is thought to aid the heart, lungs (asthma symptoms), stomach and liver. Malachite is believed to purify the blood, aid in overcoming addictions, protect against bacterial infections, ease migraines and absorb pain.

In chakra healing, malachite can be placed on the heart chakra to build up its energy. To enhance better communication, it is placed over the throat chakra and over the solar plexus to help with personal protection.

Malachite is the stone for the zodiac sign of Scorpio. It is ruled by the element of Earth and the planet Venus. An entire room in the Hermitage Palace Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, called the Malachite Room, is made almost entirely of malachite.
