How to Polish Fire Agate

Fire agate is a beautiful gem well-known to Mexico. It appears in many ways, from dark and dirty to fiery with red and blue overtones. You must be extremely gentle and careful when polishing fire agate, as it is very delicate and can be scratched by even the smallest of particles. If you have fire agate jewelry, it should be polished regularly.

  • Gloves (optional, but make sure they are soft with no abrasive texture)
  • Fire agate
  • Warm water and a sink

Instructions

    • 1

Put on gloves if you desire. Fill a medium to small size bowl with 3 cups of warm water (this will depend on the size and amount of the fire agate). Add mild dish detergent to the water and swish it around to create bubbles. This will act as a cleanser for the fire agate.

    • 2

Dip the fire agate into the soapy mixture with your fingertips, and gently rub the sides of the fire agate to get rid of any oil, dirt or other debris.

    • 3

Take the fire agate out of the water. Lay it on a soft cloth and allow any water to drip off. Then, use an extremely soft brush to slowly buff and polish the sides of the fire agate.

    • 4

Gently place the fire agate back into the bowl with the water and soap mixture.

    • 5

Remove and pat dry with a soft cloth.
