Properties of Pure Gold

Gold is a chemical element that presents itself as a precious metal. For centuries, gold has been sought after across the world and has come to represent wealth, prosperity and beauty. The history of gold is almost as impressive as the metal itself. Ancient treasures and coins have been made of gold, and entire towns and cities were built around rivers that were supposed to run with gold. It is still a prized possession to this day, and one of the most widely respected elements.
  1. Oxidation

    • Gold is highly resistive to damage cause by oxidation, which means it doesn't rust easily. This is why it is often used in electronics or dental work.

    Melting and Boiling

    • Pure gold can withstand high heat and has a melting point of 1947.52 degrees Fahrenheit. It will begin to boil at 5173 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Density

    • Pure gold is found in a solid phase with a density of 19.3  g times cm-3. When under extreme heat, it becomes less dense as it melts.

    Toxicity

    • Unlike many other types of metals, pure gold is completely non-toxic. In fact, it is sometimes used for decoration in drinks and on food.

    Magnetism

    • Pure gold is a diamagnetic metal. This means that when a magnet force presses against it, it creates a magnetic force of its own that repels it.
