Instructions

  1. Making Your Rock Candy

    • 1

Pour the water into the small saucepan and heat over medium high to a rolling boil.

    • 2

Add the sugar, using the wooden spoon to stir until the sugar dissolves completely in the water.

    • 3

Carefully remove your sugar and water solution from the stove. Pour into your canning jar, and then cover the top of the jar with a small piece of wax paper. Set aside.

    • 4

Using your string, tie the weight to one end, and then tie the other end around the middle of your pencil or craft stick. Make sure that the string is long enough to hang about two-thirds of the way into the canning jar.

    • 5

After checking the measurement, dip the string into the water and sugar solution. Lay the string in a straight line on a piece of wax paper, and let it dry. Leave the string for two days for the best results.

    • 6

When the string has dried for a couple of days, use the pencil or craft stick to anchor the string across the mouth of the jar so that the string is suspended into the sugar and water solution. Leave the jar untouched and at room temperature for about a week.

    • 7

At the end of the week, you should clearly see rock crystal formations. Your rock crystal candy is ready to eat.
