How to Convert a Multi-Band Vertical Antenna to an Inverted L

A multi-band vertical antenna is designed to pick up a wide variety of radio signals. To inhibit the number of signals received and change its receptive powers, convert the shape of the antenna to that of an inverted ̶0;L.̶1; The procedure requires tools that most homes have on hand. The antenna̵7;s wiring does not need to be disconnected during the procedure, as its receptive ability is passive.

Things You'll Need

  • Work gloves
  • Grease pencil
  • Tape measure
  • 2 adjustable hand wrenches

Instructions

    • 1

Stand a ladder against the multi-band vertical antenna if you cannot easily reach the top. Put on the work gloves.

    • 2

Measure the length of the antenna from tip to base with a tape measure. Make a dot at the halfway mark on the antenna with a grease pencil. Measure the length of the antenna from the dot to the tip and make an ̵6;X̶1; at the halfway mark.

    • 3

Place the jaws of the adjustable wrench around the antenna at the ̶0;X.̶1; Tighten the wrench so that the jaws grip the antenna tightly.

    • 4

Place the jaws of the second adjustable wrench around the antenna just below the ̶0;X.̶1; Tighten the wrench so that the jaws grip the antenna tightly.

    • 5

Grip both wrenches. Pull the wrench that is at the ̶0;X̶1; toward you to bend the antenna. Continue to pull until the section above the ̶0;X̶1; is perpendicular to the rest of the antenna. Loosen the wrenches and remove them from the antenna. Place the ladder away.
