Overview
"The Art and Science of Analog Circuit Design" is a companion book to "Analog Circuit Design: Art, Science and Personalities," both edited by Jim Williams. They are collections of writings by various technical experts about how they accomplish their work related to the design of analog circuits. The former was published by Butterworth-Heinemann in 1998 in the U.S. under ISBN-10 0750670622 and ISBN-13 978-0750670623, and is available in both paperback and hardcover as well as in electronic versions.
Contents
The book has four main sections. "Learning How" emphasizes practical experience and learning how to fix things. This first section details how technical students become good analog circuit designers. "Making It Work" ranges through oscilloscope analysis and breadboarding to integrated circuit development. "Selling It" and "Guidance and Commentary" relate the experience of some successful analog circuit designers and contain advice on working in the field, job interviews and making money from design work.
Review
The seventeen contributing authors write about their design philosophies, career experiences and personal stories. The emphasis is on the "art" part of the design process and on tricks to help with circuit design. For those interested in design approaches, background, legends and anecdotes, the book is rewarding and absorbing. Those looking for detailed guidance to help them with the design of specific circuits will not find it here. The book leads to a better understanding of analog design engineers rather than of analog design itself.
