DIY DMX Controller

Even when a scene in a movie is supposed to be dark, projectors still produce a solid black image or square on the screen because they are projecting light. This can be distracting to the audience. A DMX controller can resolve this problem by sliding a plastic sleeve across the projector. A DMX controller regulates the slide for the plastic sleeve. It can be created with a few engineering steps.

Things You'll Need

  • 12-volt DC in
  • Red dmx wire
  • DMX wire (standard)
  • DMX thru/out
  • DMX in
  • Positive and negative magnetized wire
  • 3 Servos
  • Red, black and yellow DMX wires
  • Integrated circuit

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the 12-volt DC battery to the DMX thru device with a thin red wire. This forms the initial charge for the controller. Connect the pieces by inserting the wire from the battery into the open slots in the DMX.

    • 2

Repeat the process, inserting a wire from the DMX out to the DMX in.

    • 3

Line up the three servos together. Connect the power from the DMX into the servos through a positive and negative wire that string to all three servos. Align the positive and negative portions of the wire with their opposite sign in the servos.

    • 4

Connect to the integrated circuit through a final set of red, black and yellow wires attached to the the final servo. The integrate circuit contains the algorithm that controls the projector when power is experted on the battery.
