How to Calculate Withdrawal Force for Connectors

Withdrawal force acts to slow a connector from detaching from an object. These withdrawal forces are primarily based on the speed of the lift and also can go by the name of kinetic energy. As something is lifted, it requires an initial spurt of energy to get off the ground.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the different variables in the kinetic energy of the connectors that you are evaluating. The primary variables include mass, height and time.

    • 2

Determine values for each variable. In this example, we will assume 5 kilograms for mass, 2 meters for height and 0.5 seconds for time that the connectors will dislodge.

    • 3

Insert the variables into the formula for kinetic energy and solve. The formula is KE = 1/2m(d/t)^2. In the example, substitute to change the formula to KE = 1/2*5 * (2/.5)^2 = 5/2 * (4)^2 = 40 Joules.
