How to Calibrate a Type S Tank Level Indicator

Tank level indicators measure volumes in different types of tanks. These indicators can be used in the manufacturing of aqueous solutions. The calibration of tank level indicators allows the indicators to be used in different-sized and -shaped tanks. The tank table or level of tank content is required before calibration and operation of the tank level indicator. Calibration values for some common tanks are usually stored in the memory of the indicator device. There are different types of tank level indicators, such as Type S. The devices usually have the same calibration method.

Instructions

  1. Calibrate a Tank Level Indicator

    • 1

Find the user manual for the tank level indicator. Read the instructions for that specific level indicator. If you do not have the user manual, calibrate the device using a generic calibration method for tank level indicators.

    • 2

Open the tank outlet and fill it with water until it runs out of the tank outlet. Turn off the water once you notice that the water has stopped running out of the tank outlet. Close the tank outlet.

    • 3

Turn the tank level indicator device to the "On" position. The length in which the level indicator can measure should appear on the LCD screen. Select the calibration key. This key should be on the device and is usually indicated as "Cal." Hold this key and select the down arrow key. The tank number should appear on the LCD screen. Use the arrow keys to find and select the tank number you are using. Once the correct tank number is selected, it is activated.

    • 4

Fill the tank with 100 liters of water to perform the 100-liter calibration using a flow meter. Press the down arrow key and the "Quit" key at the same time. Make sure there are no ripples in the tank. This can cause values to be lower due to float movement on the sensors. Once the arrow key and "Quit" key are pressed simultaneously, the calibration process is complete. The indicator device is ready for operation.
