How to Make Parabolic Molding Resin

A parabola can be made from molding resin by using a rotating table. This will create a perfect parabola due to centrifugal force on the resin. The size of your parabolic arch will depend on the speed of your rotating table. If your table has several speeds, you may want to test smaller amounts of the resin at varying speeds to determine which one best suits your needs. If your rotating table is located in a workshop or laboratory, it is important to use a resin which has as little odor as possible, as some resins can create overwhelming fumes.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Mix the resin according to packaging instructions. Pour the two parts of the resin into a plastic bucket. Stir with a plastic or metal stir stick to combine.

    • 2

Place a smooth-sided cylindrical metal or plastic container on the center of the table. Turn on the table, and set it to the desired speed.

    • 3

Pour the resin into the container in a single pour.

    • 4

Allow the resin to continue rotating until set, which typically takes 20 minutes to one hour depending on your resin.

    • 5

Turn off the table, and allow it to slow to a stop. Lift the cylinder, and flip it upside down. The resin will slip out of the container.
