How to Hang Planets From a Wire Hanger

Old wire hangers may not be a suitable tool for hanging your clothes, but they are suitable for hanging the planets in your model solar system. The hangers come ready with hooks, making them simple to attach to the ceiling. If you feel ambitions after hanging the planets, study an astrological chart to hang some of the other large astral bodies as well to make your solar system model more detailed.

Craft knife
Masking tape
Marker
J-hooks

Instructions

  Cut a groove into the bottom of your planets with a craft knife. Cut the groove so it goes halfway through the planet.

  Push the planet onto the flat side of the wire hanger until the hanger is at the edge of the groove. The groove should hold on to the hanger tightly. Hold the hanger up and ensure the planet stays in place.

  Cut a piece of one-inch-wide masking tape to the length of the groove. Write the name of the planet on the piece of masking tape and apply it along the groove in the bottom of the planet.

  Hang nine J-hooks from the ceiling in a straight line with at least six inches of space between each one. Place the heads of the hangers on the hooks. Hang each hanger in its proper order starting with the sun and ending with Pluto.
