What Is the Quickest Way to Grow Mold?

In many instances, the growing of mold is considered a bad thing. Mold that grows in homes, air ducts and water pipes can cause illnesses, such as asthma, sinus infections and even emphysema. Mold that grows on surfaces, such as drywall or wood beams, can damage the structure as well as cause illness. However, for school science experiments, growing mold is a learning activity, one that teaches how mold forms and what can be done to prevent it. Growing mold quickly requires a food source, moisture, warmth and darkness.

Leave the bread alone for at least 24 hours before checking for mold growth. It might take up to 48 hours, depending on conditions, such as humidity.
