How to Make Glue Remover

To make glue remover, use an everyday household product such as vinegar. A glue remover made from household items allows you to avoid chemicals that may be potentially toxic. It is also economical, because the products have other uses as cleaners or food. Many of them can be safely applied without the use of gloves. Before using, check to see that the homemade remover will not stain or damage the area where it is to be applied. Do this by placing a tiny amount on a testing area. The removers must be tested because many of them work by reacting chemically with the glue.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour white vinegar onto a cloth, and rub it into the glue. Clean the area with water. Vinegar also works on carpets. Store the product inside of a spray bottle.

    • 2

Make a baking soda paste. Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water. Gradually add a few drops until the mixture is thick yet smooth. Rub it into the spot where the glue is. Use warm water to clean the paste off.

    • 3

Rub vegetable or peanut oil into the spot, and allow it to sit for up to two hours. Clean it off with soap and water. Do not use this method in areas susceptible to oil stains.

    • 4

Rub the glue with a small amount of petroleum jelly. Keep adding more and more as needed, until the glue is completely removed. Wipe it off. Clean the area with soap and hot water.
