Science Board Games for Preschoolers

Science board games are available for preschool-age children. Science board games help children explore scientific concepts and reasoning at an age-appropriate level. These games require the help and supervision of an adult; however, preschool children can also take an approach to learn and participate in the games as the leader. There are several types of science board games that you can purchase for your preschooler, depending on the science topic desired.
  1. "Totally Gross Game Of Science"

    • The "Totally Gross Game of Science" is a board game that uses playing pieces, a blob of slime and science questions. Players answer questions from the professor cards or gross-out cards, depending on the spot they land on the board. The questions on the professor cards are ideal for preschool-age children and are scientifically based. For instance, a question might read, "Show everyone you are not ticklish by tickling yourself without laughing. What part of your body is stopping you from laughing: Your brain, your fingers or your heart?" This allows children to start thinking scientifically and have fun at the same time. The questions on the gross-out cards are made for the children to have fun. For instance, the card might read, "Imitate a fly having a meal."

    Interactive Whiteboard Game

    • The PBS Kids website (at pbskids.org) offers interactive whiteboard games for educators. Allow your preschool students to participate in whiteboard games. The games are formatted to engage students, and the topics include environmental science, mechanical, animal sounds, planetary science and biology. For instance, the website offers the game "EekoWorld," which teaches children with interactive games on the environment, recycling, earth science, plants and animals. "EekoWorld" allows children to create an animal or creature and choose the habitat and type of food they will eat.

    Rex Dinosaur Battle Board Game

    • The "Rex Dinosar Battle Board" game introduces children to dinosaurs. The board game teaches children about the different types of dinosaurs and their eating habits, such as carnivores (animal eaters), herbivores (plant eaters) or omnivores (animal and plant eaters). The game uses realistic dinosaur figures. Players must get their dinosaurs home before they are eaten by the Tyronasaurus Rex dinosaur. The game comes equipped with 13 dinosaur figures, three dice and a vinyl floor game mat.

    Childcraft Science Board Games Set

    • The "Childcraft Science Board Game" set is designed to enhance the learning of essential science concepts, such as the animal habitats, the environment, health and nutrition, earth science, plant structures and sensory functions through hands-on games. Each game in this set focuses on these different science topics with bright and colorful visuals. The set includes "Animal Homes," "Empty the Attic," "Healthy Meals," "Mountains and Valleys," "Plants Grow" and "Senses Around Town." If you want only a particular game from the set, the games can be purchased individually.

    "Operation"

    • "Operation" helps preschool-age children develop fine motor skills by using tweezers to extract different body parts from a board game shaped like a human body. Children also learn the names and positions of different human body parts and organs. But if the tweezers come into contact with the "sides" of the body, the patient's nose lights up and makes a buzzing noise.
