How to Compare EMF Handheld Analyzers

An EMF handheld analyzer or EMF meter is a device that detects and measures magnetic fields. This device is useful for measuring radiation from electronics and is also a popular tool for ghost hunters. With a plethora of different EMF analyzers on the market, it can sometimes seem overwhelming when trying to choose a product. Fortunately, it should be possible for most people to find a suitable product when following five guidelines.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide if you will be predominately measuring man-made electrical sources or ones that occur naturally. If you plan on measuring man-made electrical sources like electrical outlets, then it's usually best to choose an EMF analyzer that measures alternating currents (AC). If you will be measuring naturally occurring electrical sources, then it's best to choose an analyzer that measures direct currents (DC).

    • 2

Choose between a single-axis or three-axis EMF analyzer. The difference between the two is that a single-axis analyzer needs to be in a specific direction in order to get an accurate reading of a magnetic field. On the other hand, a three-axis EMF analyzer can pick up an accurate reading while facing any direction. Therefore, a three-axis product is usually preferable for most people because of its ease of use.

    • 3

Decide between a frequency-weighted or nonfrequency-weighted analyzer. In general, a frequency-weighted device is useful for paranormal investigators because it measures electromagnetic fields similarly to how the human body experiences it. A nonfrequency-weighted device is usually better for all other purposes because it gives a true reading, which is helpful for electrical devices.

    • 4

Consider if you want an analog or digital EMF analyzer. The main difference between these two options is that an analog device is slightly less accurate and less expensive. On the other hand, a digital device is more accurate and is usually more expensive.

    • 5

Think about the cost of different EMF analyzers. While a high cost doesn't necessarily ensure better quality, it is likely to provide more accurate readings than a lower-end product will.
