How to Make a Trebuchet Release Hook

A trebuchet release hook is designed to hold one end of the sling in place until it has reached a certain point in the firing arc, at which point the end of the sling will slip off the hook and release the payload. In order to achieve the optimal firing arc, the release hook should be very slightly bent back from the angle of the throwing arm.

Instructions

    • 1

Bend the hook nearly straight using two pairs of pliers. The hook should have a curve close to that of a longbow by the time you are done.

    • 2

Screw the hook into the tip of your throwing arm, keeping it as close to the center of the arm and as straight as possible.

    • 3

Test-fire the trebuchet. If the trajectory is too high, the hook is too straight and should be bent slightly back. If the trajectory is too low, the hook is too curved, and should be straightened slightly.
