How to Connect a Piezo Transducer

In some materials, the application of a voltage leads to the material expanding or contracting. These materials, known as piezoelectrics, have a variety of applications in modern technologies. A transducer is a device capable of converting one type of energy into another. A piezoelectric transducer can be used for the generation of sounds once you have connected it.

Function generator
Piezoelectric transducer

Instructions

  Connect the positive terminal of the piezoelectric transducer to the positive terminal of the function generator.

  Connect the negative terminal of the piezoelectric transducer to the positive terminal of the function generator.

  Switch on the function generator. Turn the amplitude control knob to set the amplitude of the output wave to 3 volts. Set the function generator to output a square wave by pressing the appropriate button on the front panel.

  Rotate the frequency knob on the function generator to set the desired frequency. Switch on the output. The piezoelectric transducer should start vibrating and producing an audible tone. The frequency of the tone is proportional to the output frequency set on the function generator.
