How to Clean a Lufft Hygrometer

Hygrometers measure the ambient humidity of an area. The Lufft company makes a wide range of hygrometers. Lufft installs some hygrometers into devices such as compact weather stations, saunas and industrial machinery. The only external portion of the hygrometer on one of these devices is the dial that gives the readout. The company also makes handheld hygrometers, including models both with and without probes. Never immerse a hygrometer into water; this damages the delicate electronics inside the device.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the glass cover of an installed hygrometer with all-purpose cleaner. Wipe the cover with a soft rag, and buff with a clean, soft rag. Pay careful attention to dust or debris that collects around the edge of the cover.

    • 2

Spray a soft rag with the all-purpose cleaner and wipe down the body of a hand-held hygrometer. Remove any fingerprints or dirt. Use a fingernail to remove any dust or debris from the air vents.

    • 3

Spray a soft rag with all-purpose cleaner to saturate. Wipe the probe of hand-held or stationary hygrometers. Check the end of the probe for any debris in the vents.

    • 4

Spray the glass surfaces of all-weather, outdoor hygrometers with all-purpose cleaner. Wipe the glass windows with a soft rag. The exterior case of an outdoor weather station doesn't require cleaning. However, you can spray the outside with all-purpose cleaner and wipe with a rag if desired.

    • 5

Store all hygrometers in a sealed case to prevent dust and dirt from settling in the device when not in use. Store the outside weather station under plastic when not in use.
