Things You'll Need
Instructions
Select one or more types of food to be molded. The best products to test are bread, dairy and fruit products. Meat will grow mold quickly but will give off a pungent odor. Anything soft with a high sugar content will also work well.
Dampen each of the foods with regular water. They should be damp, but not soaking wet.
Place the food items into the sealable container and leave sit with the lid open for approximately half an hour.
Wipe a cotton swab onto a surface where you believe there are germs or if you have a piece of moldy food, use tweezers and gloves to transfer the mold onto the swab. Then swab the item you are trying to mold with the same cotton swab. Discard the swab.
Seal the container. After this point, do not open the container again. The concentration of spores in the jar or container will rise to potentially dangerous levels.
Place the container in a warm, dark place. For example, you can place a jar into a shoebox and place it on top of the refrigerator.
Examine the contents of the jar from time to time without opening the lid. Mold will begin growing instantly, but you may not see any noticeable changes for two to three days after sealing, unless you've transferred mold from a premolded item.
Discard the container when you have finished growing your mold.
