Things You'll Need
Instructions
Spread several layers of newspaper over your work area. Cut a piece of cardboard so that it fits inside an aluminum cookie sheet. Put the cardboard inside the cookie sheet and lay the sheet on the newspapers.
Cut the neck off the plastic pop bottle with a scissors at a slight angle to create a wide opening. Attach the bottle with craft glue to the center of the cardboard. Let the glue dry for one hour.
Place the funnel in the bottle opening, and pour in 3 to 4 tablespoons of baking soda. Remove the funnel and add ½ teaspoon of glitter to the bottle.
Prepare the first batch of clay by mixing 6 cups of flour with 2 cups of salt. Add 1 cup of water and mix with your hands. Add more water in small amounts until the clay is just moist enough to stay together.
Mix a batch of Plasticine clay, according to package instructions. Mold the Plasticine clay around the base of the bottle and work up, making the base wide and the top narrow. Leave the area around the top of the bottle open. Do not let clay fall inside the bottle. Prepare two more batches of clay, one at a time, as instructed in Step 4 and add them to the structure.
Allow the clay to dry overnight. Paint the volcano brown and the cardboard base green. Glue sand, grass, twigs and lichen to the structure for decoration. Let the paint and glue dry completely.
Create an eruption by mixing ¼ cup vinegar, 3 drops of liquid dishwashing soap and 1 teaspoon of food coloring in a measuring cup. Place the funnel in the top of the bottle and pour in the mixture. Remove the funnel immediately, stand back, and watch the eruption occur within a few seconds.
