How to Make a Mini Microscope

If you are not a scientist, but want to investigate small objects, make a mini microscope to observe them. People have magnified small objects since 1000 A.D. The process gradually evolved into the first compound microscope made by Zacharias Jansen and John Lipperhey. The microscope was 6 feet long. With modern technology, make a mini microscope from used computer parts and accessories from your home.

Remove the CD reader lens from the CD player. Insert a utility knife along the bottom of the lens. Cut through the adhesive and carefully remove the lens.

    • 3

Clean the CD reader lens and your webcam lens with a soft cloth. Remove all dust and residue.

    • 4

Place a thin layer of super glue around the existing lens of your webcam. Attach the CD reader lens directly over the webcam lens. Let the glue dry for 20 seconds.

Plug in your webcam. Point the lens toward a small object. The CD reader lens magnifies the object.
